Studio 1 : Marcio Melo Dreaming in colour. Searching for balance. Finding light. "In the last years I have been focusing on amplifying my creative process by working with figurative and abstract tendencies simultaneously. Being primarily a painter, I have the need to honour these two tendencies and not to stray too far from painting’s original message, which is to me, essentially visual. Therefore you will find in my paintings an amplified use of figure and colour, expressing my emotions and ideas. When it comes to ideas, I am concerned with the creation of images that communicate something uplifting, hopeful. It is my contribution to humanity’s evolution of positive psyche. From being included in Quebec’s Ministry of Culture’s "Artists in the Schools" program, I have acquired great experience in the last ten years conducting mural workshops with students - over 90 so far. It is an opportunity for me to foster the principles of cooperation, compromise, order and balance that is so much a part of my creative process, to create monumental works of art." Marcio Melo Marcio is originally from Brazil where, as an architect, he worked in the restoration of centuries-old heritage buildings. He has been in Canada since 1987, and has made it his home. He has been exhibiting professionally since 1992. Marcio works in watercolour, crayon conté, oil and acrylic, on paper and canvas. As well as the Pontiac Artists' Studio Tour in June, Marcio has a busy year planned. His Mural project with the Quebec schools is very popular and he will be holding 11 workshops this year before the end of May. Marcio is particularly proud of his mural projects with the Quebec schools. By the end of this term he will have completed over ninety projects with the students. Recently he started producing musical videos of his new projects which show the process from beginning to end and the joy of the students working on them - they are the stars of the show! See the results of these projects on his website. Marcio has exhibited at his home studio in Bristol, in the Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal areas, in Brazil, Oregon and in Germany. He is represented in galleries in Quebec, Ontario, and the USA. Marcio's paintings are in corporate and private collections in Canada, the USA, Brazil, France, England, Italy, Portugal, Germany, China and Switzerland. His work can be viewed at any of his associated galleries, and he welcomes visitors to his studio in Bristol, Quebec. Look at his website to see more of his art, a discussion on censorship and the creative process for his exhibition "Drama" , and "Imagine Brazil" - an exhibition where he explores and documents the folkloric traditions of Brazil and its Carnival.
